No matter how sophisticated, ultimately every electrical system is operated by human beings. Technology alone will not suffice in reducing the cost and negative environmental impact of business activities. The attitude towards efficiency among the people that interact with the electrical system has to be in line with the overall company paradigm.

ecotechsoft has systems and programs in place to work with staff to provide context, information and education aimed at reducing overall electricity consumption. The programs are proprietary to ecotechsoft and can be tailored to suit any client. The programs can be delivered in any configuration from classroom to tool box and are prepared to the appropriate level of understanding among the attendants.

Behaviour change is a science in itself and there is a plethora of literature that describes the psychology of behavioural change processes. The following dot points act as a guide on how to implement behaviour change in the workforce.

Lead by example - in order to obtain “buy in” from the staff it is necessary that management displays good change behaviour.

Provide encouragement – to maintain the desired attitudes it is necessary to continually encourage the staff in their efforts to act sustainably.

Establish an education program - to provide staff with the necessary information on the importance of sustainable behaviour.

Engage all levels of staff – to obtain additional involvement, this can be done by involving staff in brainstorming and developing sustainable initiatives.

Develop an award system - to encourage staff to get involved. This is also a good way to collect and develop sustainability actions.

Provide incentives for staff - by linking sustainability to staff performance reviews.
